Kooperative Lunaria Orsogna
In central Italy, near the Adriatic Sea are Abruzzo as a picturesque part of the Apennines. At their feet are wide fields, vineyards and olive groves. Between the beach and the snow, the influence of the nearby Adriatic and with an optimal balance of sun and coolness, mature but not overly heavy wines. Orsogna is located at an altitude of about 500 m. The Cooperativa began in the 90s to convert the first vineyard areas to organic farming. Thanks to positive experience in cultivation, quality and marketing, the responsible project manager and oenologist Camillo Zulli convinced more and more members to follow this path. Today, 60% of the total production is certified organic, of which 15% in Demeter quality. All organic products grown under Demeter guidelines are marketed under the name Lunaria. Not only is the outstanding quality of all the bottled wines of this line, but also the traditional drawstring over the bottleneck, which is knotted by people from a connected handicapped workshop. With the sale of the Lunaria wines we are currently supporting the WWF Campaign Life Euro Turtles to save the sea turtles in Europe together with the winegrowers of the cooperative Orsogna (Abruzzo).

The great success of the red Bucefalo gave the winemakers of Lunaria the idea to dare the experiment of making wine from partially dried grapes. The result is impressive! Mild and dense, with very fruity aromas, catchy without being sticky.

The wine lies in the stainless steel tank on the lees for about six months and develops thereby a beautiful depth of aromatization. In the glass pale yellow, in the nose intense notes of white flowers and some lemon, on the palate aromas of mandarins are added, very well balanced with well integrated acidity.

The grape variety Pecorino is cultivated mainly in central Italy along the eastern Adriatic coast of the growing regions of Marche and Abruzzo, to the inland regions of Umbria and Lazio. With the manageable total vineyard area of ??213 ha, it is feared that the grape variety will soon disappear completely from the vineyards. Passerina is an indigenous variety of white wine found in the regions of Abruzzo, Marche, Umbria and Lazio. In Orsogna, as is customary, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for about 30 days after pressing. Maturation also takes place in steel tanks until bottling. On the nose, one finds hints of white flowers and ethereal aromas. The palate is dominated by white fruits with an intense and spicy flavour. This is an interesting addition to the Demeter wines from Lunaria.
